Your Client's Accountability Nudge Now Comes From an AI. And It Texts First.
OpenAI just put a proactive, memory-carrying agent inside iMessage. Coaches who charge extra for between-session check-ins should look at this closely.

The check-in text is one of the most profitable things a coach sells. It costs almost nothing to send and it is usually the reason a client renews.
As of October 28, a machine does it for free on a subscription somebody else is already paying for.
OpenAI announced in its ChatGPT release notes that Texting your dot was starting to roll out through iMessage on iPhone and RCS on Android, beginning with ChatGPT Pro users in the United States. Dots are the always-on agents OpenAI introduced in ChatGPT that take on ongoing work and keep making progress between conversations; you give one a goal, connect the apps it needs, and define what it can do on its own.
The part that should interest anyone selling accountability: the dot texts you proactively with updates it decides may be relevant for you.
It already knows the backstory
This is not a reminder app. Texting your dot shares the same memory and plugins as the dot in the ChatGPT app, so context carries over. You send a task or something to watch as text, a photo, or a voice note, and it texts you proactively.
Voice notes. In iMessage. From something that remembers the last six weeks of your goals.
That is, feature for feature, the "Voxer support between sessions" line item sitting in a lot of premium coaching packages right now.
OpenAI says the dot can only text you, you're the only one who can text your dot, and it doesn't give the dot or OpenAI access to your other text conversations. Group chats, phone calls and FaceTime sit outside the texting feature. So nobody is adding a bot to a client thread yet.
The detail nobody mentions in the demo
OpenAI uses Linq, a third-party messaging provider, to send and receive texts for the dot, and says it ran extensive penetration testing with its frontier models and third-party security firms.
In its support document, OpenAI states that because Linq processes these messages on the way to OpenAI, the conversation is not end-to-end encrypted between you and your dot, even when you use iMessage or RCS.
The blue bubble makes it feel private. It isn't private in the way the blue bubble normally implies.
For a coach, that distinction is the whole job. Client texts are rarely about habits. They're about the divorce, the layoff, the partner who is about to be bought out, the diagnosis. Anything texted to a dot passes through a third party — think twice before sending passport scans or banking details. The same caution applies to anything a client told you in confidence.
What to do with this
If your offer is the ping, your offer is now a feature. The defensible part was never the reminder. It was noticing the thing the client didn't say, and pushing back on the goal they set while they were still lying to themselves.
And if you want the automated nudge in your own business, use it on your own calendar first, not on client material. The beta also doesn't work in Europe yet, though OpenAI developer experience lead Romain Huet said at the company's Berlin DevDay that dots should become more widely available there in a few weeks, after talks with regulators.
Which gives coaches outside the US a short window to decide what they're actually charging for.

Editor’s note: A premium add-on in thousands of coaching packages quietly became a checkbox in someone else's subscription — and the encryption footnote matters for anyone texting clients about real problems.
